WHY LEARN TO SEW?

Sewing your own clothing can be an exciting, fulfilling hobby, not to mention a lifelong skill that will be useful for many projects.

Instead of hours of hunting through clothing racks, you can make your own pants, shirts, skirts, dresses - whatever you want - using the styles, colors, and fabrics that suit you best. You can express your own creativity by adding decorations and personal touches to your work. When your friends ask you where you get your fabulous outfits, you can say you make them yourself!

Roxann Benbow, is a graduate of the Palmer/Pletsch School of Sewing as a Certified Sewing Instructor. She will personally help you with fitting and sewing skills. Her background as a seamstress helps her tackle even the most unusual problems. Roxann has a easy going attitude and her down to earth style makes sewing fun.

These classes are Designed using simple but useful projects to learn with my 2 1/2 hour classes weekly.
You can pick your own project or use one from the suggested projects below.

ASC Sewing School Learn to Sew Series Patterns

Level 1

A great Project to start with is the Market Bag or other as agreed upon between student and instructor, then onto more complex projects.

Level 2

You can make a Chefs style apron while learning about grain and facings.

Skill Building Projects

You can make a Pajama button front Shirt or Winter Shirt and PJ Pants.

while making these projects student would learn how to sew collars, elastic waist bands, pockets, button holes, and other specialty stitches.

Skill Building Project

If you choose to make a fitted shirt You will learn the more complex pattern fitting techniques and common sewing techniques using the Palmer/Pletsch fitting method. In this class we will fit and alter the pattern to fit your body’s unique issues especially the bust line area. You will learn how to alter any pattern to make corrections for bust, waist, high round and round back issues as well as other problem areas you may have. Using a Palmer/Pletsch McCalls pattern # you will make a long or short sleeve shirt. Once you have this master pattern fitted to your needs you will be able to make a shirt in about 4 hours.

Skill Building Project

How about a Kuspuk, can't find one that fits properly or in a color or look that you like. Try making a custom fit one you will never buy another one they will all be custom fit.

Make a Unisex Button Front shirt, using a Palmer/Pletsch McCalls Pattern . This is a great Hawaian style shirt.

Student should learn how to fit a pattern , sew a standard collar , pockets, button holes, and other specialty stitches.

Special Sewing Classes

Sewing 6: $165.00

You will learn Pant Pattern Fitting Using the Palmer/Pletsch pattern fitting methods, and sewing techniques , you will be tissue fitted in a simple pant and if time allows a trouser pant. The pattern is altered to fit your body’s unique issues. Then you will cut it out in fabric, pit fit it the fabric and complete the pant with invisable zipper or fly front zipper and waistband using a McCall’s pattern by Palmer/Pletsch #s . Purchase pattern based on your fullest hip measurement or as close to that measurement that you can get.

REGISTRATION & CANCELATION POLICIES

All class registration fees must be paid at the time of registration or 10 days before the start date. The cost of each for monthly fee which is 4 each of 2 1/2 hours of class time is $90.00. Weekly fee is $25.00 plus materials. Students are required to provide all of there own sewing machines and materials .

Students will need a basic zigzag style sewing machine in good working condition; if one is not available the instructor has a few machines available for a use fee.

A material list will be given upon paid registration fees.

Classes fill up quickly so be sure to reserve your spot.

**Please note a min of 3 students required for classes, 7 days notice to cancel is required, If you canceled a class you will recieve a full refund.
No make up classes unless its for weather or pre approved 3 days in advance.
